Why is A4 letter better than us?

In the picture below, millimeters and inches are used to compare the sizes of the two sheet sizes. Even though they look the same, US Letter sheets are wider while A4 sheets are longer.

When you put an A4 sheet on top of a Letter sheet with their top left corners touching, you can see how they are different. Letter is longer than A4, but Letter is wider than A4. A design or layout must be no bigger than A4 and no longer than Letter in order to fit on both page sizes. In other words, the width of an A4 sheet (210mm or 8.27 inches) and the length of a Letter sheet are the largest dimensions that can be safely printed on either page size (11 inches or 279.4 millimeters). It’s not quite that easy, though.

This is smart because it is easy to change the size of a page. This is still true, even though it may have been much more important when digital assets were hard to come by.

If you want to save paper by copying multiple pages onto one page, you can copy exactly 2 or 4 pages per side without cutting anything off or getting white stripes. If you want to put information from an A4 page on an A3 sheet, it will fit well.

To fully use it, you may need to get used to things like measuring distances in meters instead of feet, but you’ll get the hang of it quickly. Because many of my clients are outside the U.S., I usually work in metric (and even for US-based clients, I prefer to model in metric because it is simply easier). As a 3D modeler, I often have to make things to scale. It doesn’t take long, but if you put some effort into it, you shouldn’t have any trouble. Start with a rough guess. For example, if you think something will be 5 inches, multiply that number by 2.5. (since an inch is 2.54cm). If you convert things, you’ll be able to guess more accurately without even thinking about it.

US Letter sizes are harder to use because they don’t work the same way every time. The US is one of the few countries that still uses measurements that are not based on the metric system. It is also one of the few countries that does not follow the ISO standard.

It turns out that there wasn’t just one design idea that led to the different sizes of paper in the United States. For example, you can’t exactly fit two letter pages on one Ledger page. The US paper size standard makes it much harder for an end user to be flexible about how they want something printed.
