Employers do not have to keep an OSHA 200 Log for each family. Employers of workers who do work in different places can meet the requirements of 1904.2, 1904.4, and 1904.6 for these workers, as stated in 29 CFR 1904.14, which talks about employees who don’t work in fixed places, by keeping the necessary records in a central location for each operation or group of operations subject to the same supervision (field superintendent, field supervisor, etc.).
Even if the employee’s office is in a certain part of his or her home, the employer has some control over the “work at home” agreement. Before letting an employee work from home, make sure they can do so in a safe and healthy way. Employers must take reasonable precautions to plan for any risks that might come with special work at home. Then, they should do what they can to limit or get rid of these risks. In some situations, taking reasonable precautions may mean that the employer needs to check out the workplace in person. Employers must fix or get rid of any safety or health hazards they find on the job site or through other means.
