Start by taking out all the drawers and hardware, and then clean the surfaces well. To give it a mid-century look, I painted the hardware a beautiful gold color. I painted these first because metallic paint takes the longest to dry.
Steel wool should be used to clean the surface of each pull to get rid of any loose dirt. Sanding the flat surface with steel wool will also make it rougher and better for painting. Wipe each pull down with a damp cotton towel to get rid of any sanding dust, paying extra attention to any cracks or gaps.

All of the joints in the bottom case are loose, so the device keeps rattling and jamming the doors and drawers. All of the joints are tenon and slot, which are held together with nails and putty. Some of the cross-pieces have fallen off because of the weight of the drawers. This shows that the nails are bent or the tenon is broken. How would you put the case back together?
