First, build each Billy bookcase by following the instructions from Ikea. I spent about fifteen minutes on each one, and this part was very easy. Then I cut the 2x2s to size and screwed them to the bottom of each bookcase. So, I was able to wrap the baseboards we already had around each bookcase to give them a more built-in look. I didn’t build a full base for each self. Instead, I attached each piece to the front and back. As per Ikea’s instructions, each bookcase and extension unit was also attached to wall studs, even though they were strong enough to stand on their own. I also used the pre-drilled holes on the sides to screw each bookcase together.
I finally got them done! This was one of the easiest projects I’ve worked on in a long time, but it was also one of the most tiring. I’m happy with how these built-ins I made myself turned out. They were made with Billy Bookcases from Ikea. I put a lot of time into this project to make them look more like they were made for me, and now I can’t even tell they came from Ikea.
